Nova Friburgo colony was created on May 16, 1819, when
D. João VI hired 400 Swiss families to settle in this area,
that at that time was known as “Fazenda do Morro Queimado”.
In 1824, it was added to the Vila de Nova Friburgo, a
German continent. From this date on, the area started to
receive Italian, Spanish , Japanese and Lebanese
immigrants, and it welcomed all with the same affection
that until today its visitors receive.
This colonization is reflected in the architecture, gastronomy
and hospitality of the people of the city that is located in the
Mountainous Area of Rio de Janeiro state, only 136Km away
from Rio de Janeiro city.
