EThis tour is a real time travel. Only at an one-hour distance
from Rio ant the Piraí District, in the middle of the Atlantic
Forest, is possible to observe the luxury and splendorous
life of the 18th and 19th centuries Brazilian Coffee Barons.
Huge farms, old coffee beans plantations, with their Main
Houses and Slaves Lounges (SENZALAS), open their
doors to public visitation, as live museums.
The tour consists of one nightstand and breakfast at the
Hotel Fazenda Arvoredo and on the next day, a tracking
through the Atlantic Forest and visit to farms at the
neighborhood on convertible jeeps.
Arriving at the hotel, an old farm itself, there is a show
performing the Baron's family life and their habits during the
climax of the coffee cycle. At the other farms visited, there is
an explanation of the Barons day-by-day living and their
family, slaves and coffee dealers relationship. Some farms
have slave museums and regional goods like cachaça,
sausages, biscuits and compotes for sale.
For the good old music lovers, the small village of
Conservatória, at 15 minutes form the hotel, is a traditional
bohemia center of "Seresta" (Brazilian romantic music) with
lots of pubs and bistros opened all night long during the
weekends.
